Chery Automobile was founded in 1997 in Wuhu, Anhui, by a team led by Yin Tongyue under local government sponsorship. Its first car, the Fengyun 1, appeared in 1999 on a licensed SEAT‐derived platform. Chery’s Tiggo series of SUVs and the Arrizo sedan family have become its best-selling lines, while its ACTECO engine division supplies powertrains to other automakers. As a pioneer among Chinese brands in exporting vehicles since 2001, Chery now serves markets worldwide under multiple sub-brands—such as Exeed for premium models—and operates joint ventures including Chery Jaguar Land Rover. Known for aggressive global expansion and rapid model development, Chery continues to diversify into electrification and overseas assembly.
