Dongfeng Motor Corporation was founded in September 1969 by the Chinese government in Shiyan, Hubei, as the Second Automobile Manufacturing Plant. Its earliest models included the military EQ240 truck (1975) and the EQ140 five-ton civil truck (1978). Today, through sub-brands such as Fengshen (Aeolus) and Voyah, Dongfeng produces SUVs like the AX7, electric crossovers, and commercial vehicles. As one of China’s “Big Four” state-owned OEMs, its business volume exceeded 3.8 million units in 2023, bolstered by joint ventures with Honda, Nissan, and Stellantis. Dongfeng’s push into electrification and globalization underscores its evolving industry role.
