Leapmotor Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. was founded in 2015 in Hangzhou by entrepreneur Zhang Xiaolong, backed by state and private investors. Specializing in electric vehicles, Leapmotor developed its first concept, the LP-S01 sports coupe, in 2017. Its production debut came with the S01 electric coupe in 2019, offering a 167-horsepower motor and 0–100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. The C11 mid-size SUV followed in 2020, featuring a 500 km NEDC range, 150 kW power output, and CATL battery packs supporting 30-minute fast charging. In 2021, the T03 city car targeted urban commuters with a compact footprint and 300 km NEDC range. Leapmotor’s Link Engine software enables over-the-air updates and intelligent cockpit features, integrating voice control and ADAS. By 2023, Leapmotor delivered over 150,000 EVs and expanded production capacity to 200,000 units annually. Interesting note: Leapmotor’s modular ‘Blue Whale’ platform underpins multiple body styles, optimizing battery packaging and interior space.
