IM Motors was launched in December 2020 as a joint venture between SAIC Motor, Alibaba Group, and Ant Group, reflecting the convergence of automotive and digital ecosystems. The brand unveiled its first production vehicle, the IM L7 premium electric sedan, at Auto Shanghai in April 2022. The L7 features a dual-motor powertrain rated at 544 horsepower, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds and a NEDC range of 700 km. Its intelligent cockpit runs on Alibaba Cloud’s Link OS, offering integrated smart-home control, e-commerce services, and facial-recognition entry. In 2023, IM Motors delivered over 50,000 vehicles in China, supported by a network of 120 experience centers. The subsequent IM LS7 SUV concept, debuted in late 2022, previews a 7-seat electric SUV with advanced driver-assistance systems. Interesting note: IM Motors offers a subscription-based connectivity package, bundling entertainment, navigation, and remote services for a monthly fee.
