Originating in 1916 as the Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Company’s diesel engine division, Isuzu Motors Ltd. adopted its current name in 1934. The company gained renown for reliable diesel engines and commercial vehicles. Key models include the D-Max pickup truck (introduced in 2002), renowned for durability and exported to over 100 countries; the MU-X SUV (2013), sharing underpinnings with the D-Max; and the N-Series light-duty trucks, a global best-seller since the 1950s. Isuzu entered the North American market through GM partnerships, supplying diesel engines to Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. In 2023, Isuzu sold over 350,000 units worldwide, with strong market presences in Asia, Australia, and South America. The brand maintains an extensive global dealer network of over 8,000 outlets. Interesting note: Isuzu’s proprietary 4JJ1-TCX engine features common-rail fuel injection and variable-geometry turbochargers for improved emissions and fuel economy.
