Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. was formed in 1933 through the merger of two companies, Nihon Sangyo (NASO) and Datsun, under the leadership of Yoshisuke Aikawa. The brand gained prominence with the Datsun name in export markets, achieving global recognition with the Nissan Skyline series (first launched in 1957) and the Z-car lineage beginning with the Fairlady Z (1969). Nissan’s technological innovations include the adoption of the world’s first mass-produced electric vehicle, the Nissan Leaf (2010–present), which has sold over 500,000 units worldwide. In addition to performance models like the GT-R and Z series, Nissan’s SUV portfolio includes the Patrol, X-Trail, and Rogue. In 2023, Nissan sold over 4 million vehicles globally and continued investment in electrification and autonomous technologies. Interesting note: Nissan’s ProPILOT driver-assist system, introduced in 2016, offers Level 2 automation on highways and has been deployed in over 10 million vehicles worldwide.
