Saturn Corporation was launched in 1985 by General Motors as a “different kind of car company,” headquartered in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Saturn’s first models, the S-Series compacts introduced in 1990, featured polymer plastic body panels resistant to rust and denting, simplifying repair and maintenance. The brand’s “no-haggle” pricing strategy and customer-centric retail experience differentiated Saturn showrooms from traditional dealerships. In 2002, Saturn expanded the lineup with the Vue crossover, and in 2005 introduced the Ion and Sky models. Despite strong brand loyalty and innovative approaches, GM discontinued Saturn in 2010 due to corporate restructuring. Saturn’s legacy endures through its influence on transparent sales practices and lightweight material usage in subsequent GM vehicles.
