Lincoln was founded in 1917 by engineer Henry M. Leland and his son Wilfred to build Liberty aircraft engines for World War I. After the war, they retooled their Dearborn factory to produce the Model L luxury sedan, which debuted in 1920 with craftsmanship inspired by bespoke coachbuilders. Acquired by Ford in 1922, Lincoln became its dedicated luxury division, introducing the Continental in 1940 and later expanding into SUVs with the Navigator, Aviator and Corsair. Today, Lincoln focuses exclusively on premium crossovers and SUVs, blending quiet V6 and hybrid powertrains with refined interiors and advanced driver-assist technology. The brand’s four-point star logo and “Lincoln” name pay homage to Leland’s admiration for President Abraham Lincoln, symbolizing integrity and innovation.
