Renault was founded in 1899 by brothers Louis, Marcel and Fernand Renault in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, after Louis built his first motorized “Voiturette” in 1898. Early successes included the Renault Voiturette and the iconic 4CV economy car, which helped motorize postwar Europe. The brand is known today for its Clio hatchback, Megane family car and Captur crossover, alongside electric models like the Zoe. As a founding partner of the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, Renault sells vehicles across more than 120 countries, balancing volume models with premium offerings under Alpine. The company has pioneered safety innovations such as the first mass-market three-point seatbelt and continues to develop electric and hybrid powertrains while supporting motorsport through its long-standing Formula 1 team.
